  • Almost Amazing

    By guitarguyct (Pcmac user)

This app is very easy to use and, obviously, the content is fantastic. I would give it 5 stars if not for one significant problem: the app’s inability to effectively control shuffle mode and repeat mode I’m not sure if I’m the only one with this issue, but it’s been a problem for as long as I can remember. If I’m listening to an album and want to listen to it in order, I obviously want to turn off shuffle mode. But if I’ve just been listening to a playlist on shuffle, there’s about a 50/50 chance shuffle mode will actually stay off when I press the button to turn it off. Sometimes I’ll try closing the app and reopening to retry playing the album, but that also often doesn’t work. And the problem exists reciprocally too (if I’m listening to an album in order then want to switch to shuffling a playlist, I’ll hit “Shuffle Play” and the app will start the playlist at a random song but then play it in order, no matter how many times I try to turn shuffle mode on). My opinion of this app started at 5 stars, then the issue became very noticeable and my rating went down to 4 stars. Now, I experience this issue multiple times per week (sometimes multiple times per day), so I can’t give the app more than 3 stars. I still use it religiously and love my playlists and all the other features, but this is a significant part of the listening experience that the app should be doing much better.
  • Premium?

    By Elijah.C (Pcmac user)

Premium is good and all, but why would I be motivated to pay for it? Over Half your users don’t pay for premium and I don’t blame them with the UI issues and other in-app complications. Another unknown number of users utilize third party apps and gets all the premium features but for free. So in reality, about just over a third of the users actually pay for a service that’s free to obtain literally anywhere else (assuming the amount of jail broken and illegitimate app users is about equal to the number of free users). I like the app, I like its features, but I don’t understand how anyone could be motivated to pay for something a majority of people can and will get for free. And yea, “if you don’t want to pay for it, just download it like everyone else you talk about”, well for people who don’t want to ruin their phones with harmful config profiles and other hidden malware there should be a more convenient solution (not to mention, Apple users who keep their devices up to date aren’t even capable of using this process). Maybe paying less for premium over time for consecutive membership payments? Incentivizing loyal members with occasional discounts or reduced costs never hurt and would probably draw in more money. Bundling other memberships was a good idea as well. Basically, why would I pay for something everyone else gets without paying? Clearly that community has shown it’s not worth paying for.
  • great app, but annoying rollback of features in recent update

    By PhoenixBirdCity (Pcmac user)

This is a review about the recent change to "Your Library". Generally these changes are a substantial UI improvement and navigating between various views is far more intuitive now that the notion of a my library home page, with all relevant shortcuts to artists, podcasts,... only available there. the only issues I’ve run into as of yet are 1. the lack of the a-z navigation scroll bar in the Albums section and 2. the lack of a move to front list of recently played albums. re 2. however, I feel this may actually be useful toward encouraging people to diversify their listening, as the design of defaulting to recently played in my experience makes it difficult to spend time finding something I’d like to listen to (either new or archived in my albums section) when my attention is already so contested by everything else. so yeah, I actually like what I said was my second complaint, and thinking back had thought about that before. being able to scroll quickly through the albums seems like a good interaction to keep, however.
  • The new library layout is difficult to navigate

    By Marisaen (Pcmac user)

It’s a great app except for the fact that the new update changed how my music library is laid out. It makes sense to have music and podcasts in separate tabs but it is difficult to find artists I have saved to my library. You have to be following an artist for them to show up in a list in your library. I have no interest in following any of the artists I have saved. I just want to be able to scroll through all the artists whose songs I have saved, whether it be one song or their entire discography, and select their music that way. Sure, I can find them in “recommended artists” but there is no way to sort them alphabetically. Please fix this. Also, this problem has been around for a while now, but how come whenever I look at the albums in my library, the albums that I only have a few songs saved from still display the entire album? There are several albums that have 5 or 6 songs that I like, but whenever I want to listen to just those songs, I have to make a separate playlist for them because when I start playing the album from my library, it plays all of the songs, even ones I have not saved. What the heck? Edit: looking at the albums tab, I can now only find albums that I have saved the whole thing. It’s kind of hard to find my music now.
