  • Still committed, but frustrated.

By Jacob R. Campbell (Pcmac user)

I like the app. Haven’t found a PDF organizer that meets my academic needs better yet... but right now I can’t use it on my iOS devices... which is where I live and do most of my work. It just crashes on launch. I’m left sending it to my laptop and then reading / reviewing though another app on my iPad. I reached out to support... and they said an update is coming... and I know app review takes a bit... but so frustrating (some is my fault and I’ve been living on the betas for a while... and had no expectation that it be fixed for because I was on the beta, but it is released now). If I could encourage the developer... I hope that you could take a your iOS version and make it the best, because to me it’s the best place to read and review my journal articles. I’m assuming shortly there will be an update to fix the crash on launch... but what I want is for them to also take on new cool features of iOS (dark mode, Siri shortcut support, editing in other apps... etc). I’ll be ok if just opens, but I want you to be taking it further as this is my platform of choice.
  • Lots of potential, but recently too buggy to use

    By Dude_imchris (Pcmac user)

I’ve used this app for the last year, and it had been a great way to read academic papers while on the go, allowing me to highlight text, leave comments, and then sync it back to the desktop app. It always seemed a bit slow, but functional, until about a month ago. Since then, it has really struggled to refresh, sync, and download PDFs. It has crashed multiple times recently, just trying to scroll through a PDF. This app can be extremely useful, but it really needs to be updated. I love the ability to easily access my the app library and keep everything synced, but the app’s recent issues have made it almost useless. Please fix all these bugs! I’m looking for other options but haven’t yet found anything as seamless to sync between mobile and desktop. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things improve soon!
  • It does not even suffice as a PDF reader

By Lin Lee Chun (Pcmac user)

the app helps me save much time on organizing research papers and files. I love the service itself however not this mobile version... All I need is simply a portable PDF reader that can let me read papers on the go. I choose Mendely app because it is painful to manage PDF files around when using a 3rd party tool. But this app hardly works and always has some weird bugs when I need it. For example, recently the app asked me to log in again due to the expired session. After logging in I found all the paper entries were duplicated for some reason. Moreover, when opening a file, I could not close the side panel to enter the fullscreen mode. If there’s anyway to report the bug I’m willing to do so. Hope we will see a better version soon...
  • Please fix for iOS 13

    By Mr noital (Pcmac user)

I use the app in every capacity of my academic workflow (Chrome importer, LaTeX .bib exports, Overleaf integration, annotation, and reading). Though I understand that not many people were happy with the layout or stability of the iOS apps, at least they worked in iOS 12. Now, the app will not even start without crashing (starting the app loads the logo then closes abruptly). I beg the developers to please update the apps to at least functional levels for iOS 13, iPhone and iPad. iOS 13 was not a surprise to any other app developer, as Apple provided the resources to update apps long before the public OS launch. Elsevier, please give your developers the money and time to develop functional apps if you plan on advertising them for these platforms. If you are discontinuing the apps, then just do so and update your marketing. It is simply unprofessional and frankly embarrassing of an ordinarily esteemed and prestigious organization.
